The gauntlet has been thrown . . . pick it up if you dare! ;)
The reason I titled this post the “Character Costume Challenge” (aside from the great alliteration, of course) is because I am issuing a challenge. To you. A challenge that has to do with both characters and costumes. Go figure. :)
Since I couldn’t quite seem to get the writer part of my brain working yesterday afternoon, I decided to have a little character-related fun and proceeded to tear apart my closet in search of my secret stash of costumes and disguises.
A new outfit here, a different weapon there, a dash of stage makeup, and I became the characters from my latest novel, Song of Leira.
Quite fun, actually.
So, I thought I would invite you to join in the fun! Because it’s October and, though I’m not a huge fan of Halloween, I do love costumes! So, one week from today, consider yourself cordially invited (ahem, most dangerously dared) to join the Character Costume Challenge.
Official Rules of the Challenge:
(They’re more like guidelines, really…)
Dress up like one of the characters from a story you’re writing. Or, if you’re not a writer, or not currently writing a story, dress up like a character from one of your favorite books.
Then, take a picture of yourself in said marvelous costume (and in character!) and post it on your blog or on facebook or somewhere on Wednesday, October 31st.
You can write a little bit about your character too, or if it’s a character from someone else’s book, tell us why you chose that character!
Then, come over here and post a comment on my Character Costume Challenge post, and I’ll be sure to stop by and see your costume! :)
Be sure to tell your writing/reading friends about the challenge too! The more people who participate, the more fun it is! :)
Happy costume hunting!
Mary Ruth Pursselley says
This is an awesome idea. Challenge accepted!
And, since October 31st is the day before NaNoWriMo begins, I'll dress as Ann Morgan – one of the characters from my 2012 NaNo project. Any excuse to wear a steampunk outfit. ; )
Gillian Adams says
Ooh awesome! Can't wait to see your costume.
Tiffany Jane says
The Character and costume title drew me in at once
and I'd love to take up the challenge – but I can't get a picture :'(
but I could write about her….
Gillian Adams says
That works too! :)
Leah K. Oxendine says
Ooh! What an awesome idea! I'd love to participate however I don't want to post my photo on the 31st. I am avidly against Halloween so don't want to appear as if I'm doing something in coordination with the event. :/
Eruantien Nenharma says
Am I allowed to dress up as a pirate from a novel I wrote three years ago? If not, I can dress up as a Gypsy…
Gillian Adams says
Leah – No worries! Post it whenever you want to. I'd still love to come by and see your post.
Eru – Pirates are always allowed! :) You can pick any character from any story! You can even do more than one if you like. I'm doing the three main characters from my latest novel Song of Leira…
Charley Robson says
Aaaaah, such a short space of time! I shall do my best, though – I just need to pick one of my characters now, haha!
Gillian Adams says
The picking is the tough part, isn't it? Or you could just be like me and side step the "favoritism" issue by not picking and doing all of them! ;)
Memzie says
En Garde! *sword pulled out of sheath* Challenge accepted!
Memzie says
It's SO true! I'm struggling to know which character to pick. AAAAAAH!
Emileigh says
It's tomorrow! I'm starting to panic because I haven't figure out which Main Character I'm going to be which means I DON"T HAVE A COSTUME YET!!!
