The Dark Sea Annals by Wayne Thomas Batson
Sword in the Stars, and The Errant King
The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson
The Homelander Series by Andrew Klavan
These books are written more for gals than guys, and I’m not generally a huge romance fan, but there was plenty of action, intrigue, and plot twists in these books to keep my interest piqued. Politics in fourteenth century Italy could be dangerous – read wars, feuds, lots of sword fighting, assassins, etc. Pretty exciting, huh?
Fiddler’s Gun, and Fiddler’s Green
Some more all time favorites. These books have a sort of classic feel to them, a timeless quality, a beauty and a depth that reaches beyond the story into the heart of the reader.
Fin’s Revolution tells the story of orphan Fin Button during the tumultuous times of the American War for Independence. Fin’s restless spirit and dark secrets lead her on a dangerous journey through a series of tragic events from the orphanage in Georgia, to a privateer ship, to the threat of a noose about her neck. Definitely a must read.
Failstate by John W. Otte
Superheroes… A reality TV show… A government vigilante licence… A murder… Sounds like a recipe for a great story.
Another great one for guys or girls, Failstate offers a fun blend of superheroes, mystery, action, and awesome characters. I finished this book in one sitting and look forward to the promised release of more Failstate books in the near future!

So many lovely books I want to read . . .
"Failstate" sounds fab. If you liked that, I'd recomment "Wearing the Cape" in return. It's an ebook, but it's by far one of the most amazing superhero books ever. And the heroine is a practicing Christian, which just makes her even more awesome considering the stuff she puts up with!

I've only read By Darkness Hid on this list (From Darkness Fled is sitting on my shelf waiting to be read), but I've heard of some of the others, and all the books you listed sound great!

Charley – Ooh, I'll have to look that one up! I haven't read many superhero books.
Lily – If you thought that By Darkness Hid was awesome, From Darkness Fled ramps up the awesomeness even more! ;) The second book is probably my favorite of the three, but the third book is awesome as well!
