In January of 2012, on a hill top in Haiti beneath the stars and the moon, I sat singing worship songs with my friends. And there, in the peace and quietness of the night, I felt the presence of God more clearly than I ever had before. They say the mountain top experiences usually come right before the valleys . . . and I suppose they’re right. Because there were some tough valleys just the other side of that mountain top, but through the midst of it all, I knew that God was with me and is with me always.
I know it sounds odd, but I played the part of the dastardly outlaw, the “Amarillo Kid,” in our Wild West Adventure trail rides, and so was shot by the sheriff and fell off my horse three times nearly every Friday this summer. It was quite exciting, but I don’t suppose I shall ever be able to look at that trail the same again. When one has died so many times in the same spot, one can’t help being a little wary riding through. ;)
In September, I attended my first writer’s conference. It was a thrilling and humbling experience to be among nearly seven hundred other writers, walking the same halls as multi-published authors, sitting at the same tables as agents and editors, and learning something new nearly every moment of the day.
Work the summer at camp. I’m returning for my seventh year as a wrangler and quite excited about it! Can’t wait to see what the Lord will do this year.
Yet, even as I type my goals and plans and dreams for this next year, I cannot help thinking of Proverbs 16:9. “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” I pray that I shall hold my dreams loosely, set my plans at His feet, and seek His guidance for my path in 2013.
