Three and a half months later …
Roughly fourteen weeks …
Or ninety eight days …
(I could do hours too if you like? No? Oh all right then.)
Well, all that to say I’m back from working at camp and pleased to be here with all of you again.
I hope your summer holidays (workdays?) were as exciting and amazing as mine. The summer truly did fly by — I have a hard time believing that it is actually over.
There’s an odd sort of feeling that comes over you when it’s time to leave camp. The only thing I can think to compare it to is what the Pevensies must have felt when it was time to leave Narnia. Though I suppose if one can compare camp to Narnia, then home is like the Shire.
When you walk inside the door for the first time in so many months, bags tucked under your arms, and have the first chance to breathe that you’ve had in a long while, you can’t help feeling a little bit like the hobbits sitting in the Green Dragon Inn at the end of The Return of the King film.
You can’t help feeling a little bit lost and out of place because the things you have been through recently were so great and tough and stretching and amazing all at the same time, you can’t begin to understand it yourself, let alone explain it to anyone else.
And yet home — the Shire — is a sweet and restful place to be … until you uncover your “lost” to-do list and realize it’s high time you crack on!
So that said, it is a great pleasure to be back here with all of you and I am thrilled to announce that this blog will once again be resurrected from the death-like coma that it enters into every summer.
All right, I admit that might be taking it a bit too far. But to the faithful few who yet remain followers of this blog, here’s what you can expect over the next few weeks:
- A few of those reviews that I (ahem) may have promised to post (ahem) this summer …
- New about upcoming Characters in Costume Challenges — yes, the challenges are back due to popular demand (and because I think they’re so much fun!)
- Random posts on all things fantasy, mythological, adventurous, and Tolkien — if you’ve visited here for any length of time then you should know what to expect as far as that goes!
- And perhaps … if you’re very very lucky … and I’m in an extremely good mood … you may get to see the opening lines of my newest fantasy novel. Excited? I hope so.

Well, I got most of 3 chapters done this summer! (Notice that I didn't say "edited"). Count me in on all your motivating things!

Well that's far more than I got done … but that's okay. I honestly think the break did me good!
There's nothing like good company for motivation, eh?

Oh good. I love the new color scheme — it feels so relaxing. Better be careful not to write boring blog posts or my readers will fall asleep! ;)

YES Characters in Costume Challenge! YES you need to share those opening lines!! (and of course, if I didn't love fantasy and mythological things I don't know what I'd be)
:D

Na vedui! We've all missed you, Gillian! I was wondering if you'd be returning soon! Comparing coming back home after a long period to the Shire is perfect! And I LOVED your poem. I like your blog too!
Oh…and I hope your spy has not been suffering in prison. Maybe he has escaped by now?
No veren!
Gillian Adams says
Glad you liked the poem. I couldn't resist the opportunity for Middle Earth geekishness. ;)
Now that you mention it, it has been quite a while since we've heard from my poor spy. I do hope he is still alive. It may be high time to mount a rescue mission …
