Feeling in-Quiz-itive today?
Sorry. Terrible pun there. I just couldn’t resist.
In an effort to bring some exciting new material to this blog, I intend to start posting a weekly(ish) fantasy quiz to test your knowledge of . . .
Are you ready for it? . . .
Everything.
All things fantasy.
Your favorite fantasy novels. Movies. Fairy Tales. Creatures. Quests. Weapons. Steeds. You name it.
In fact, please do. If there’s something you would love to see a quiz about (i.e. you just love this fantasy book and would love to test your knowledge on the subject), then leave a comment and let me know. And I’ll see what I can do!
And let me know (nicely) if the quizzes are too easy . . . hard . . . boring . . . etc. Constructive criticism is helpful, but scholars generally advise treating authors nicely. After all, if you hurt their feelings, they may just put you in their next novel . . . and kill you off!
You’ve been warned.
So to start off, because Tolkien is one of the fathers of fantasy as we know it, here is a quiz from The Fellowship of the Ring.
Enjoy.
Brynne Delerson says
Oh my word, that was difficult. I'm ashamed at how poorly I did. I want to know who aced it!
Hannah says
Incredibly awesome. I too was ashamed. My final score was 900 out of 1500. Sigh. And I consider myself such a Tolkien geek. If you do a quiz based off some of the history, I might do better.
And I, along with many other imps, would LOVE it if you did a Goldstone Wood Quiz! Thank you for this wonderful idea!
Gillian Bronte Adams says
Yes, I'm planning a Middle Earth history quiz too in the near future. I'm looking forward to that one! ;)
Goldstone Woods quiz? That's a great idea. I'll add it to my list.
Jill Stengl says
Wow–I was terrible at this! Got less than half of them correct. But then, it's been many years since I've read the series, so guess I shouldn't be too hard on myself! Excellent quiz, and I look forward to seeing more of these! I would love quizzes on the Chrestomanci series and the Dalemark Quartet, both by Diana Wynne Jones, and the Prydain Chronicles, and the Queen's Thief series, and Narnia. And, of course, Goldstone Wood. I think I might do better at that one, but you never know. Heh.
Gillian Bronte Adams says
I love the Prydain Chronicles … and Narnia of course! Great suggestions all of them.
Yes, this quiz would definitely have been tough if you haven't read the series in a while!
Gillian Bronte Adams says
So … general consensus is that the quiz was a tad too difficult. :) I'll bear that in mind next time! Still learning here.
Hannah says
I loved the difficulty. But there were a few thing really obscure questions. I loved it nonetheless. And my big brother got a better score than me. :)
Gillian Bronte Adams says
Yeah … I take full blame for all the obscure questions. If there was a career that required knowing random obscure Middle Earth lore and trivia, I'd be set! ;) Haven't discovered on yet…
Molly says
Could you do a Doctor Who one? (or does it have to be something you know about?)
Gillian Bronte Adams says
Probably best if it's something I know about beforehand … makes it a tad easier. And I haven't been converted to a Whovian yet. :D
Jenelle Leanne says
800/1500… and I'm a major Tolkien fan… (but a good quiz! I enjoyed it)
Have you ever read the Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede? I'd love a quiz based on those!
Or one from the Death Gate Cycle. :)
Gillian Bronte Adams says
Oh yes! I love the Enchanted Forest Chronicles! So much fun. What a great suggestion. Haven't read the Death Gate Cycle …
