At long last, after many delays and a few minor hiccups, it’s time for the September edition of the Characters in Costume Challenge featuring Obstacle Characters.
For this challenge, I chose Cade Peregrine from my fantasy novel Song of Leira. Bent on fighting the Khelari, Cade serves as an Obstacle Character to Ky who cares less about fighting the soldiers and more about keeping his friends safe.
Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Cade.
I’m the leader of a people you don’t know exist. You might say we’re invisible. But that’s just because you people won’t look beyond the comfort of your homes and the warmth of your fires to the horrors taking place on the streets outside.
Horrors committed by the Khelari.
We’re not hard to find. Just look beneath your feet. And know that we are not dead and we will not be forgotten. We are coming. And when we do, the Khelari will rue the day they claimed our city.
Join us. Help us fight. And together, we will win our freedom.
I told you he would try to recruit you.
But you get used to it eventually. That’s just the way Cade is …

Wow! Your pictures are incredible!
Cade sounds like a really fun character! He's quite convincing. I'd join and fight with him if he tried recruiting me! :P

Thank you! They were lots of fun to take.
Oh I'm sure he'd be glad to welcome you into his army! :D

I just posted mine! Sorry about it being a bit late … but I didn't have my pictures until yesterday, and I was so tired after a three-day marathon of babysitting my cousins that I wasn't coherent enough to do up the post until this morning.
But Cade sounds like a great character, and you make a great boy. I wish I had a roof that I could climb onto … I'd join his cause if it weren't for the fact that I prefer writing about danger to actually living in it. Maybe I can donate a few coins …

Oh no that's fine! You got them up in plenty of time. So glad you decided to participate in the challenge.

You always do such a neat job at your challenges Gillian. Love it and looking forward to reading this book someday… and your other tales! :-) I just posted mine; sorry I joined in a little late today. I had a lot of fun. Thank you and I’ll be sure to join in on your next one.
Gillian Adams says
Aw thanks, Ryan! I'll head over there and take a look! :)

I'm so excited to read the Song of Leira! I know you'd be great at cosplaying! No one would be able to tell you're a girl.

Haha. :)

Excellent! It must be really helpful to have such a good character bio when you write. The pictures are very good.
If there is one mismatch, it seems to be that the white shirt is too noticeable cutting such a striking contrast to the black for him to really blend into the crowd. Perhaps a grey shirt would emphasize the blending aspect more.
Continue to really appreciate your inspirations.
Gillian Adams says
Very true. The only white shirt I had was far too white to actually be Cade's. His is much more ragged and therefore blends in far more. But whenever he's out and about, he's generally hooded and cloaked. He's usually only in his shirtsleeves in the safety of their hideout. :)

oh drat! I forgot I entered! Ack. I hope it's not too late…(it was my sister's birthday yesterday…)

Don't worry about it. Trying to get this month's challenge go was a little bit crazy! Were you able to post then? If not, that's fine! :)

Picture my church friend Lexa did! I didn't get time to put together a costume for my human bad guy. Gothlond Interrupts the feast in chapter 3. The picture also appears in the chapter and I'm thinking of trying to upload these type of pictures to Kindle.
