For me at least…
After dusting the house I usually wind up with watery eyes, unable to breathe, and a thousand new stories ideas darting around my head.
It’s amazing how those mindless little tasks fuel the fires of imagination. I was beginning to feel a little brain dead after sitting down at my computer and trying to type the end (well, not the end really, the winding down to the end) to my novel Song of Leira.
Then I had to take a break to dust the house – company coming! And it was while I meandered up and down the stairs and wandered through each and every room soundly vanquishing the invading dust, that I was suddenly struck (I told you it was dangerous) by inspiration!
A new story idea!
A short story actually – I’ve had quite a few random short story ideas lately, but I’ve had to jot them all down and save them for later since I’m determined to finish my novel.
However… this new story idea will be nagging at me until I actually write it! Oh, to write? Or not to write! That is the question! Whether ‘tis nobler…
No, wait, wrong time period!
In any case, I can’t tell you too much about the story, but I will say that it is fantasy… it takes place in the month of April (surprisingly)… the ‘hero’ is a 15 year old boy… and it’s about fairies!
Now that I’ve piqued your interest (hopefully) I’m off to write! At least the dusting also provided a little clarity on the particular difficulty I was facing in Song of Leira so I should be able to type like the wind tonight.
No, say not the wind, but a hurricane!
But I cannot leave without posting a few quotes from Cyrano de Bergerac (a play by Edmond Rostand). Whenever I am lacking in inspiration, Cyrano provides it!
“To sing, to laugh, to dream, to walk in my own way and be alone, free, with an eye to see things as they are, a voice that means manhood – to cock my hat where I choose – at a word, a yes, a no, to fight – or write. To travel any road under the sun, under the stars, nor doubt if fame or fortune lie beyond the bourne – never to make a line I have not heard in my own heart.”
“Now… I – I am going to be a storm – a flame – I need to fight whole armies all alone; I have ten hearts; I have a hundred arms; I feel too strong to war with mortals – BRING ME GIANTS!”
Ah, but I could go on about Cyrano de Bergerac forever! There are so many brilliant scenes, so much heroism, so many wonderful lines! But, I must leave, and hastily, else Cyrano detain me and I never get any writing done.
So, I bid you adieu! I’m off to battle with the Langorian pirates on the shores of my imagination.

Definitely interested! I can't wait to find out more about it! :) Battle those pirates nobly, my friend! Or maybe not, pirates usually cheat…

Huzzah for Cyrano! He is currently my profile picture (his black-and-white movie alias, that is) on Facebook. >_>

@ Hannah – I'll have to let you read it when I get around to writing it.
And the pirate battle went well – the pirates were sneaky as always, but the heroes were nobly heroic and… oh but I can't tell you that can I?
@ Jake: Yes! Cyrano is amazing! I've whiled away many an evening performing Cyrano de Bergerac to an invisible audience in the secrecy of a locked room…
