Christmas Confessions … and a Giveaway!

December 7, 2016 by Gillian Bronte Adams 8 Comments

Well friends, I have a confession to make …

*whispering* I started listening to Christmas music back in October …

*dodges rotten fruit*

Terrible, I know, but honestly, one month is not enough time to enjoy all the Christmas music that’s out there! Still, now that it is officially December, I can come out of hiding and blare my Christmas music for all to hear.

I don’t know about you, but the Christmas season is my favorite time of year. For many reasons. It’s a time to remember the coming of the Messiah. It’s a time to dwell on the beauty of the message delivered to the shepherds on the hilltop above Bethlehem, that God was offering a way of peace to all mankind. And that offer of peace still stands, not only through the “tranquility” of the nativity scene (that will soon grace so many houses), but through the shed blood and gaping wounds of the God-man on the cross at Easter.

Christmas is a time to remember, and it’s a time to love and to give and to celebrate with family and friends.

Time for another confession. I really do enjoy gift giving. It’s not so much about finding the “perfect” gift as it is about spending the time thinking about my family and friends and trying to find something that will show them that I know and care about them.

So … I would like to give a gift to you guys, and there’s no better gift than the gift of books, so we’re having a book giveaway!

“Books make great gifts because they have whole worlds inside of them. And it’s much cheaper to buy somebody a book than it is to buy them the whole world!”

– Neil Gaiman

Now because Christmas is a time to focus on giving to others, for this giveaway, you get to nominate a friend to be entered in the giveaway alongside you! There are no strings attached. You don’t have to share or follow or like anything. (Although, the more people who share the giveaway, the more people we’ll reach. And if we reach more and more people, the number of gifts might increase.)

At the end of the week, I will draw three pairs of winners, and give both the winner and their nominated friend a copy of Orphan’s Song or Songkeeper. Winner’s choice. And guess what guys … I’ll be giving away Orphan’s Song copies with the new cover!!!

How do you enter? It’s simple! Visit my Facebook page and leave a comment on the pinned giveaway post with your friend’s name. The winners will be selected and announced after December 12th. What have you got to lose?

And just for funness sake (I firmly believe that funness should be considered a word, if it isn’t already), what book are you most hoping to find under the tree this Christmas! Share in the comments!

Give the Gift of Books this Christmas … and My Christmas Gift to You!

December 14, 2015 by Gillian Bronte Adams 3 Comments

Christmas promo

For me, Christmas and books go hand in hand. Every year when I was growing up, my parents would ask me what I wanted. And every year, I asked for books. And more books. I recall one or two old snapshots in the photo album where I’m sitting behind a stack of books that’s nearly as tall as I am.

Books are one of those rare gifts that keeps on giving. They’re not something that you use once and forget about. Every time you pick up a book and re-read it, it’s like visiting an old friend. And Christmas and gifts books also carry the added draw of nostalgia and special memories.

I am a notorious book-gifter. There was one Christmas a few years back when I realized only after my family had started unwrapping their presents that I had given every single one of them a book of some sort. (Since then, I’ve tried to broaden my horizons a wee bit. There’s nothing so dull as predictability after all.) But honestly, it does make sense. Gifts are meant to come from the heart, and when you love books enough to hunt down just the right sort of book for each person, it’s that much more special.

And when you guys decide to give your friends one of my books, well, that just makes me all sorts of ridiculously happy and honored and humbled too. So, I decided that I wanted to give you a gift as well.

My Gift to You

The one thing that people ask me about the most is a map of Leira. I’ve had a sketch drawn up for several years now, and it’s been through almost as many revisions as the books themselves. But I decided that it was time for me to grit my teeth, dive into the work, and turn my sketch into something worth sharing …

That’s right, Houston we have a map.

So between now and the end of the year, if you purchase a copy of Orphan’s Song or Out of Darkness Rising to give as a gift, I will mail you your very own copy of this luverly beauty below (granted, this is just a sneak peek) printed on gorgeous natural paper and a MP3 song of your choice!

Because music and the Songkeeper Chronicles and Christmas go hand in hand.

How do you claim your gift?

It’s easy. Simply send me an email at thesongkeeper@gmail.com with a copy of your receipt and your mailing address, and I will ship it off to you.

But there’s more. Not only will you get a copy of the map and a brand new song to grace your ipod, your name will also be entered into a drawing for one of the first digital ARC copies of Songkeeper, book two. *grins* High stakes, my friends. High stakes.

SONGKEEPER FRONT COVER

Now on to my real Christmas gift …

If you haven’t yet joined my newsletter, now is the time to do so, because on Christmas Eve, all of my newsletter subscribers will receive a bright, new, shiny email in their inbox delivering a sneak peek at the first chapter of Songkeeper!

That’s right, my dears, you could be one of the first readers of chapter one.

If you haven’t read Orphan’s Song yet, I should probably warn you that there will be some simply lovely spoilers in chapter one of Songkeeper. So to save yourself from the peril of discovering something simply dreadful, read Orphan’s Song first and then sign up for my newsletter before Christmas Eve in order to read chapter one of book two.

Christmas Eve chapter one

Now that I have (hopefully) whetted your appetite for Christmas Eve, I’m curious, what is the best bookish Christmas gift you have ever received?

Out of Darkness Rising Release, Amazon Blitz, and Launch Giveaway!

March 16, 2015 by Gillian Bronte Adams 85 Comments

If you’re reeling from the vast amount of awesomeness packed into the title of this post, don’t worry! It’s completely understandable. I’ve been reeling since Out of Darkness Rising came out yesterday. I am just that excited for the chance to share this story with you. This moment has been a grand total of five years in the making. The first four years dragged on like a horse slogging through knee-deep mud, but the past twelve months have been so intense, hectic, and action-packed, that this day was nearly lost in the middle of it. So I am forcing myself to slow down and step back to enjoy this moment.

As a part of the celebration, there are two things I want to share with you: an Amazon Blitz and a medieval themed Out of Darkness Rising launch giveaway. You can earn extra entries for the latter with the first so this is one instance where you’ll want to read through the terms and conditions (like Bilbo) and not simply skip all the way to the rewards section at the end. It can be tempting, I know. :)

OODR Amazon Blitz

To help promote the release of Out of Darkness Rising, we have scheduled an Amazon Blitz for today, March 16th! Are you planning on adding Out of Darkness Rising to your collection? If so, please join me for the Amazon Blitz by purchasing the book (either ebook or paperback) today. Focusing the purchases during a specific time can help increase the sales ranking which means more people are likely to see the book! Find Out of Darkness Rising on Amazon.

As a thank you, participating in the Amazon blitz will earn you an extra 10 entries in the super fun medieval themed Launch Giveaway below! That’s 10 entries you can only earn today. Enter the giveaway through the Rafflecopter below. Help spread the news about Out of Darkness Rising and enter for a chance to be one of three winners who will take home the following awesome prizes.

Allegorical Fantasy Giveaway #1: Out of Darkness Rising

March 3, 2015 by Gillian Bronte Adams 30 Comments

Allegorical Fantasy

Well, ladies and gents, March is here. BOOK TWO of the Songkeeper Chronicles has been turned in, Out of Darkness Rising is about to release, and I’m about to start the initial writing stages for BOOK THREE.

I’m not entirely sure why March and Allegorical Fantasy seem to go together, though I think perhaps it has something to with how the expression below reminds me of both names and allegorical representations of Jesus. “In like a lion … out like a lamb.” The Lion of Judah. The Lamb of God. Aslan.

Perhaps it’s just me.

In any case, I settled on Allegorical Fantasy for March and decided to start off the month with another giveaway for Out of Darkness Rising, my allegorical fantasy novella that’s releasing in less than two weeks! So, if you missed out on a chance to win Out of Darkness Rising last time, this could be your lucky day! Enter through the Rafflecopter below. I’m offering a paperback copy for the US and ebook copies for any international winners. But first, make sure you read through the end to get a sneak peak into the book … Yes, my lovelies, you did read that right!

OODR Front Cover

Darkness reigns unchallenged.

For the villagers on the accursed Island, life has only one meaning – death. Bound to the Island by the curse, the villagers suffer beneath the iron claw of the Serpent, daily breathing the poison of his breath and dying to appease his insatiable appetite.

When Marya’s parents are slain by the serpent for their belief in a legendary king, she becomes an outcast. Struggling to survive and avoid the vengeance of the Tribunal, Marya is torn between legend and the harsh reality of the Island. Yet when a forgotten promise springs to life, she cannot help wondering if the old stories might in fact be true. And if they are, will the promise prove stronger than the curse?

Meet the Author

This is where I would normally introduce you to a new author, but since you’re here on my blog, I assume you already know at least a little bit about me. So instead of my usual bio, I thought it would be fun to share a few things you may not know about me. Warning: expect randomness and much tongue-in-cheek to ensue …

  • Dr. Pepper is the way to my heart. Not seriously. But almost. Hand me an ice cold Dr. Pepper on a hot day (or a cold day for that matter) and we will almost certainly be friends.Summer 2012 125edited
  • As a member of a little bitty volunteer fire department in a little bitty rural area, I’ve learned that fire and the 4th of July tend to go together, which in Texas means a lot of sweating in your gear.
  • I cannot count the number of times I’ve fallen off my horse … on purpose! *grins* Really! My horse and I have a penchant for drama, so in the past, I’ve taken to using him in western skits where I enjoy playing the bad guy who gets shot off and dies dramatically at the end. So much fun!
(The first time we did the skit, my horse started nudging me while I was lying on the ground – so cute! After that, he figured it out and just gave me an annoyed look whenever I came off. Yes, he has a lot of personality.)
  • I would be perfectly happy living in a tiny cabin in the woods. If I wasn’t a writer, I wouldn’t even care so much about whether it had electricity or not. I once fell in love with a house that had a roof full of … unplanned … skylights. Cutest thing ever. In need of much tender loving care.
  • I think you folks are the coolest people ever!

Back-page Pass OODR 1

Betrayal. The word had a pleasant ring to it. Arientyl could become accustomed to the shape of it on his tongue, the ring of it in his ears, the tint of it covering his clothes and staining the skin of his sword-hand. After centuries of bowing and scraping and smiling through gritted teeth, the freedom that came with finally allowing the mask to fall was pure relief.

Who could have imagined betrayal could be so sweet?

The wet thud of his boots echoed before him down the stone hallway toward the massive hardwood door that led to the King’s chambers. So close now… so close. His hand involuntarily tightened about the grip of his sword. He allowed himself a quickening of breath as he envisioned driving the blade into the King’s heart and feeling the strong form that had ever stood in his way finally crumble, the breath of opposition finally release in vain.

He halted before the door and lifted his hand to the latch. A whisper of movement behind sent him spinning into a defensive position. The figure of a warrior stood in the center of the hallway, surrounded by the bodies of the slain, cloak hem soaking up the blood that was Arientyl’s handiwork. There was no mistaking that sword stance. Or the one it belonged to, the King’s own son.

This giveaway is super easy to enter! Since I’m trying to spread the word about Out of Darkness Rising before its release, all I ask is that you share the book somewhere online – whether you mention it in a blogpost, link to the giveaway or book trailer on facebook, or tweet about it is up to you.

If you’ve already mentioned Out of Darkness Rising in a blog post, you may count the original post as long as you share the link to your post somewhere online after the start of the contest. You can do this once a day until the end of the giveaway! Easy way to rack up those entry points and increase your chances of winning. :) I’m offering a paperback copy for the US and ebook copies for any international winners.
