[Translation: goodbye in Haitian Creole – and yes, it is spelled correctly!]
Well, I’m off and in just a short while I will be on my way to Haiti! For some reason it hasn’t really hit home yet – even though I spent the whole day packing. It seems strange to think that in just a little while I’ll be on the plane flying down to Haiti! It is even stranger to think that I have been “planning” on going on this trip since last January and I have been wanting to go for even longer than that. So, I am very thankful to the Lord that I now have the opportunity to go!
I cannot begin to describe how excited I am about going. I know that it will be difficult. I know that I will be stretched in so many ways, that I will be forced to step out of my comfort zone – but that is such a wonderful thing, for in my weakness, Christ is shown to be strong! I know that I will come home changed and I am glad.
My prayer, as the team prepares to head down, is that we will all go with lives open to the Lord’s leading, hands open to serve, hearts open to love with the love of Christ. I pray that we will not be so focused on our schedule and plans that we miss out on the opportunities the Lord brings us. That in all things, we would reflect the light and love of Christ in everything we say and do.
I ask for your prayer for the trip, for the team, and for Haiti.
Specific prayers:
~ safety while traveling to/in/and from Haiti & health for the team
~ that the Lord would do a mighty work during our time Jacob’s Well – that hearts would be touched and turned towards Him.
~ for all of the children who will be attending the Jacob’s Well youth camp, for the Haitian staff
~ relief for Haiti from the effects of the earthquake, cholera, and political troubles
As always, your prayers are greatly appreciated!
I received an email a few days ago with an update from the Haitian pastor (Gersan Valcin) that we are partnering with in our work at Jacob’s Well. He wrote this over the New Year:
“As we are about to go to bed, we can hear the voices of people singing in the dark, praises to God. They were singing with such harmony that one would believed they were angels. I knew that village 10 years ago, it was filled with voodoo temples and fear ruled everyone, people were dying from diseases. Now they are free to sing the song of the redeemed. If only I could see the transformation of each village of my country like this one, I would know that I accomplished my life’s destiny…“
What an amazing testimony to the work that the Lord is doing! Praise God! We pray that He will continue to do a mighty work in Haiti and around the world!
And so, I bid you orevwa! I’ll be back in a little while!
