And it’s time for another Winter Giveaway!
(Don’t you just love winter time? And books … lots of books!)
I think it’s impossible to have too many books, which is a good thing since my bookshelves are once again starting to overflow. But walking and sitting space is generally considered a good thing too, so to avoid becoming hopelessly lost in the forest of books in my house, I’m hosting a fantasy novel giveaway each week until the end of the year.
This giveaway is for the first two books in the Merlin’s Immortals series by Sigmund Brouwer: The Orphan King and Fortress of Mist.
The future of the Immortals is in the hands of an orphan
The last words of a dying woman would change the life of young Thomas. Raised behind monastery walls, he knows nothing of his mysterious past or imminent destiny. But now, in the heart of medieval England, a darkness threatens to strangle truth. An ancient order tightens their ghostly grip on power, creating fear and exiling those who would oppose them. Thomas is determined fulfill his calling and bring light into the mysterious world of the Druids and leaves the monastery on an important quest.
Thomas quickly finds himself in unfamiliar territory, as he must put his faith in unusual companions—a cryptic knight, a child thief, and the beautiful, silent woman whom may not be all she seems. From the solitary life of an orphan, Thomas now finds himself tangled in the roots of both comradery and suspicion.
Can he trust those who would join his battle…or will his fears force him to go on alone?
The throne is redeemed, but the battle is just beginning.
In the dark corners of an ancient land, evil lurks in the shadows. Powerful druids haunt the spaces of their lost territory. Double-minded noblemen fight for domain and influence. Invaders from the north threaten the kingdom of Magnus. This land of promise and redemption is mired in deceit and corruption.
The Orphan King, once victorious in conquest, appears to be losing his grip on his seat of power. Thomas rules Magnus, but does not know whom he can trust. His enemies anticipate his every move, thwarting him at each turn. Something is not right.
Under attack, both in the supernatural and natural worlds, Thomas must reach back into the secret layers of his past to find the strength and wisdom to fight his battles. When the mist clears, who will stand with him?

My favorite version of the Arthurian legends . . . I don't know if either one counts, but I think it would be a tie between the Dragons in Our Midst series by Bryan Davis and the Legends of Karac Tor series by D. Barkley Briggs.
Gillian Bronte Adams says
Ooh, I keep hearing about the Dragons in Our Midst series … apparently I'm going to have to read those at some point. :)
Hannah says
Hmmm, I haven't read a whole lot of Arthur tales, at least not one I really, really like. I guess I loved the version by Mark Twain, A Conneticut Yankee in King Aurthur's Court. That one is just great…until it turns really depressing and then I don't like it anymore. :(
Gillian Bronte Adams says
I know. It's a great story … and then you can't help but bawl your eyes out at the end.
Nightingale says
There are so many interesting adaptions out there! But actually, even though it's only a small-ish role, I've always been most intrigued by C.S. Lewis's use of the Arthurian legend in his Space Trilogy.
Gillian Bronte Adams says
The Space Trilogy is another one of my favorites. The last book is so strange … but I still love it.
Lisa Canfield says
Holy cow, the Orphan King has been on my TBR list for a while now! This is awesome!
I would have to say TV show because I never finished the book, though I did read a smaller, abridged version.
Gillian Bronte Adams says
Yay!
I love the TV series. :) It's so much fun.
TW Wright says
I loved the book! It was really good! :)
Those books look awesome!
Emily Kopf says
I love the Dragons in Our Midst Series by Bryan Davis. It turns Merlin into a prophet and makes a teenage boy the fulfillment of the legend that Arthur will come back! I can't wait to see what else is out there, though!
Gillian Bronte Adams says
I've never actually read the Dragons in Our Midst Series … I'll have to pick it up some time.
I've always wanted to read about the Future part of the Once and Future King. :)
CajunHuntress says
I really enjoy the Merlin television show. The idea that they are that young, my age, inspires me.
Gillian Bronte Adams says
I love the television show as well. The camaraderie between Merlin and Arthur is so great.
T.D. says
Argh, I have to choose?!? "The Seeing Stone" is a great Arthurian novel – I can't remember the names of the subsequent books.
Gillian Bronte Adams says
I know! So tough, right? :)
Bookishqueen says
For books, it is Merlin's Blade by Robert Treskillard.
Gillian Bronte Adams says
Ooh fun one! That's actually going to be up here for a later giveaway … but that's a secret, so don't tell anyone! ;)
Writer4Christ says
I enjoyed the Dragons in our Midst series, but I kinda felt like the Arthurian legend was partially carelessly thrown in to be convenient. Um… my favorite might be the Legends of Karac Tor series but I need to read the second and third books in it… I really liked the Dragon Keeper Chronicles series by Donita K Paul even though they aren't exactly Arthurian.
Gillian Bronte Adams says
Yeah, I've only read the first two books in the Legends of Karac Tor series so far.
Lizzie Madsen says
I really love Merlin, the television series. I think it's great how they stay true to the legends for a great deal of the plot.
This is a great giveaway!
Gillian Bronte Adams says
I love how they reimagine the legends, so it doesn't feel like they're "breaking the rules," but at the same time it's a fresh take on the story! Love it so much. :)
Hannah says
I shared the giveaway!

Gillian Bronte Adams says
Sweet! Thanks, Hannah.
Riley says
My favorite version of the Arthurian legends would have to be Merlin (tv series).
Ooh ooh! Or the Squire's Tales series. Those books are fantastic.
and I didn't choose just one. sorry! ;D
Gillian Bronte Adams says
The Squire's Tales … I've heard of those, but I haven't read them yet.
That's okay. Choosing just one is a bit much to ask, I know.
Hannah White says
I absolutely LOVE Arthurian Legends!!! They play a big role in my series! My all time favorite TV show is the BBC Merlin series. I'm so sad they canceled it! :(
Gillian Bronte Adams says
I know! The ending … *sob!* So sad. And I did so want it to keep going. Now they just have to make the second part of the story, right? The Future King part! :)
myownfantasies says
I have to say, Merlin BBC is my favorite one so far. ;-D Excited to see who wins the giveaway! I love these. :-)
Cheers!
Liz.
Gillian Bronte Adams says
Mine too. So far, I've seen a decent number of BBC Merlin fans answering this question! Makes me quite happy. :)
Theodora Ashcraft says
I really like, as much as I feel silly admitting it, "The Sword And The Stone", the Disney version. *blushes* I've always loved that film.
Gillian Bronte Adams says
Oh, no need to feel silly! One of my favorite version of Robin Hood is the Disney one with the animals! *sigh* It's so good.
Rachel Kasperson says
I really enjoyed A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. I laughed and cried and only wish it ended happier.
